Living Waters Camp and Conference Center is April’s Mission Offering

Living Waters Camp and Conference Center is our mission partner for April. For the past 48 years Living Waters has provided camping, educational, and worship opportunities for all age groups throughout the year.   Most of their children’s camps are offered during the month of July.  The theme for this year is Beyond Belief The Universe of Christ 2018 and includes programs for kids from Kindergarten through High School.  Living Waters also has rental facilities that will accommodate individual tent camping as well as RV’s.  In August they sponsor a Golf Outing and can provide housing for a variety of retreats. Joni Hufford, the director of Living Waters, will be at the Sunday, April 8th, Service to provide us with more information.

Bible Brew meets on April 19th at 6:30pm

Our popular small group forum, Bible Brew, meets on Thursday, April 19th at 6:30pm.  Monthly conversation topics usually focus on themes of faith, theology, Biblical interpretation, and trends in church and society.  This month’s topic is “The Holy Spirit.”

Craig and Denise Weaver have offered to host Bible Brew at their home, 389 Stepping Stone Rd, Somerset, PA.  Participants are welcome to bring snacks to share with the group, if they wish. We hope that you can join us as we brew up some good conversation over good food and fellowship!

Save the date for “Rolling River Rampage!”  Community Vacation Bible School!  This year’s Community VBS will be June 18-22nd.  The theme is “Rolling River Rampage.”  Come and experience the thrill of a lifetime as you ride the rapids of amazing grace!  Children from 3 years old to 6th grade are invited to attend.  This year’s Bible school will be a cooperative effort between 4 partner churches.  As is the case every year, we need adult and teen helpers to make our VBS a success.  Please talk to Pastor Matt or Andra Snyder if you are interested in helping!

St. Paul’s Team for the Daily American Challenge

It’s that time again—time to get off the couch and get moving!  Join St. Paul’s Daily American Challenge Team.  The “fitness challenge” portion of the program begins on February 4th and runs through April 28th.  During the fitness challenge each team member logs his/her starting weight (on February 4th) and exercise (walking, biking, exercise videos, etc.) miles/hours each day through April 28th.  On April 28th each team member takes his/her final weight and tallies up total exercise miles/hours.  FYI…you never have to report your weight, just weight lost–the beginning weight and ending weight are recorded on your own personal log that helps you keep track of things and you don’t turn it in!  You and our team will get points for each pound lost and mile/hour exercised.  The race portion of the event will be held on the morning of June 9th.  Participants have the option of running 5K or 10K or walking 5K.  You are welcome to participate in the fitness challenge only, the race only, or both the challenge and the race.  The registration fee is $20 and includes a t-shirt.  If you’re interested in participating, please see Amanda for a registration form or for more information.

Somerset Rotary Blood Drive Challenge

The Rotary Club of Somerset is sponsoring a blood drive through the Central Blood Bank.  The drive will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 1:00pm—6:00pm at the Somerset Football Field House, 511 S. Franklin Ave, Somerset, PA.  Walk-ins are welcome, however you may register for an appointment by calling 866-366-6771 or going online, centralbloodbank.org.  Use group code C5300065.

St. Paul’s Youth Attend the Eastern Regional Youth Event

We need your help!

United Church of Christ Youth from Maryland to Maine will gather this summer at California University of PA for the North East Youth Event.

Your help is needed to assist our members (10, so far!) in getting to the youth event.

Along with their Christmas candy fundraiser, youth will also be having a coffee house in May to help pay for their trip.

Our custom as a tithing church is to assist our youth through being good stewards of our gifts.  If you’d like to give a scholarship gift to help pay for our youth to attend this summers event, please note Youth Event and the amount on your offering envelope.  The registration cost is $350 per person, with each family contributing $50 toward the effort.  Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated!

Faith Formation Class Schedule for the remainder of the term

The Children’s and Youth Choirs will rehearse together from 10:00am-10:30am.

Their term will conclude with an all-church celebration on Pentecost Sunday, May 20th.

A Note of Thanks!  Many thanks to all who made our Lenten, Holy Week observances and Easter celebration so meaningful.  Dozens of people were involved in the worship & devotional life of our church family over the past week.  They include:  The Chancel Choir, The Children’s & Youth Choirs, The Men’s Brotherhood, The Women’s Fellowship, Church Council, Our Sunday School teachers & their classes, The Spiritual Life & Evangelism Team and the prayer vigil participants, All the Committees of Council, The Trustees, The Quilters & Knotters, St. Paul’s Youth Group, and countless individuals who gave their time and talents to make this week extremely meaningful.  I especially want to thank Andra Snyder for preparing Communion, Amy & Mark Marteeny for caring for our facility, Dave Neimiller and Marcy Shellenberger for preparing our wonderful choirs, and Cindy Lambert for patience in preparing all of our bulletins.  These countless gifts given are testimony that the Resurrected Christ is at work in our church family!
